Farm Production

Although the methods of production vary on members' units, they all meet legislative and welfare requirements. For example all sows are loose housed during the dry period, correct stocking rates for growing pigs are adhered to and drugs are only used under veterinary advice with withdrawal periods strictly observed. These and many more criteria are documented in the quality assurance scheme operated by the group. This scheme is overseen by an independent veterinary consultant who undertakes regular farm inspections on all group members' units.

Members pay particular attention to on-farm breeding programmes to ensure the slaughter generation meets the standards requested by the processor. The group has nominated semen from the top boars in the United Kingdom and Ireland for use in artificial insemination on group members' farms. Similarly only quality top performance tested boars from Pig Industry Genetics Ltd (Antrim), the only independent pig testing station in the United Kingdom, are used as terminal sires. This again ensures the quality of the slaughter generation.

The group collectively purchases feed. Independent nutritionists have formulated a range of rations, which only incorporate wholesome quality ingredients. Indeed the group  supplies pigs which have not been fed genetically modified rations. Members are advised on which diets within the range to use to ensure maximum pig performance and the production of quality slaughter pigs.
